A bake sale by the sea

Equal Health volunteers, OTs, Janine and Amy, baked up a storm to sell on Perth's Scarborough Beach raising $1,000 for the India 2013 camp.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon in January two eager Equal Health volunteers could be seen battling to erect a marquee on gusty Scarborough Beach Reserve. This was the setting for our fundraiser, 'A Bake Sale by the Sea' which we organised to raise funds for our trip to Kolkata and Katwa in February.

We came up with the bake sale idea (because who doesn't love home baked treats) and figured we would need to do it in an area with lots of human traffic, so Scarborough Beach it was! We were so surprised at how easy it was to organise this sale. It was a lot of work and required a lot of generosity from other volunteers, friends and family, but after a few quick calls to the local council and a few signatures on some forms we were good to go!

On the day we had enough baked goods to feed half of Perth! Many, many thanks to Equal Health team members Nicki Hurwitz, Tarin Dempers, Chloe Panizza, Gillian Hurley and Jane Moore who leant their time and baking skills. As well as piles of cakes, muffins, slices and cookies we sold soft drinks and water and had an Equal Health donation tin.

We were pleased to raise $1,000 which was added to the Allied Health budget for our trip. This would not have been possible without the huge amount of help we received from our friends, families and fellow volunteers.

A huge thank you to everyone who was involved in making the day a success.
